Germantown Friends School is seeking a full-time Choir and Chorus director for the Upper School. Duties include directing daytime and weekend rehearsals for the Choir (an auditioned group) and Chorus. The successful candidate will have exceptional choir training skills, some piano proficiency and enjoy working with Upper School students. Must demonstrate ability to develop a choral program, work collaboratively with accompanist and colleagues, and create a positive choral culture. Other components of the position may involve working in the 9th Grade general music program or Middle School classes, depending on the skill sets of the candidate. This position reports directly to the Music Department Head and the appropriate division directors. This position is for the fall of 2018.
Communicate with teachers, parents, administrators, and outside professionals in order to best support.
Direct rehearsals during the school day as well as bi-weekly Sunday rehearsals (for the Choir.)
Program repertoire appropriate to the age level and skill level of the students.
Write reports that reflect the growth and progress of the ensembles and the individual students.
Seek internal and external performance opportunities.
Attend departmental and divisional meetings.
A solid knowledge of the choral repertoire and resources.
At least 3 years of experience directing large choral ensembles.
Master's degree or higher in related fields.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Background in music education.
