The Music Co-Teacher is responsible for student learning, classroom instruction and curriculum implementation, in accordance with the mission and philosophy of High Meadows School, in the specialty area of Music Education (grades PreK-8th) and Beginning, Intermediate, Advanced Band (grades 5th-8th). The Music Co-Teacher is also responsible for student assessment, narratives, parent communication (face-to-face, phone, digital) and planning (within/outside of the PYP units of inquiry) and team meetings.
Components of Position:
Collaboratively design and implement the music curriculum, PK-4th grade general music and 6-8th grade electives
Co-teach students on their instruments at their level (including beginners) and to ensure each student’s progress by as much individualization as possible
An appreciation for children’s development both in music and in life
Strong sense of classroom management techniques within a Positive Discipline setting
Respect for different learning styles and the awareness to differentiate instruction to best serve the needs of all children
Willingness and ability to expose students to diverse styles and genres of music
Commitment to serving the whole child as well as their school and home support systems
Confidence in creating, developing, and presenting school-wide productions for community events
Confidence and enthusiasm for fine arts and cross-curricular collaboration
Knowledge of current music technology trends including use of iPads
Must be able to professionally manage responsibilities on a PC platform in a timely, effective manner
Ability to maintain appropriate, professional communication with parents
Willingness to support the vision of an established and ever-evolving music program, while contributing new ideas as they emerge
Must be able to function as a stand-alone teacher for Middle School courses such as beginning guitar and music technology
Maintain annual music budget including instrument purchase, curriculum supplies, clinicians, travel, and other related expenses
Performs any other related duties as assigned by Administration
Minimum of three to five current, consecutive years as a full-time, lead teacher in Music Education (including chorus and band instruction) or similar; Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education (K-12), with chorus and band experience required; Preference given to those with Master’s Degree in Music Education which is strongly preferred • Gifted Certification a plus • Current GA Teaching Certification preferred • Experience as a constructivist educator • Experience as a co-teacher in a progressive school setting preferred• Collaborative and interdisciplinary instruction experience a must.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Must be able to move and set-up band equipment, musical instruments, and chairs and stands daily
