The Houston Tidelanders have been active in the greater Houston Metropolitan community for 70+ years, with a long tradition of performing at high levels. We are currently conducting a search for a Musical Director and an Associate Director. Both of these are contract positions. They report to the Chapter Chairman of the Music and Performance Committee.
The ideal Musical Director candidate will have:
5+ years of experience directing preferably a cappella style vocal ensemble(s).
The ability to develop a strong, engaged music team and work as a team member collaborating with chapter leadership.
The desire and ability to help the Tidelanders perform at an “A” level in all musical areas.
The ability to inspire an atmosphere of enjoyment and fun while working to achieve “A” level performance .
The desire and ability to work with coaches to achieve chorus goals.
The desire to continue to develop his or her director skills through attendance at the Barbershop Harmony Society’s Directors’ College and other workshops.
Candidates for Associate Director should possess similar qualities.

The Houston Tidelanders Chorus is the performing chorus of the 30,000-man Barbershop Harmony Society’s Houston Chapter. We are an a cappella, i.e. unaccompanied, men’s singing organization comprised of quartets and our large performing chorus. We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, chartered in 1946. There are more than 825 BHS chapters in the United States alone and our peers consistently rank us among the Top 20 performing choruses at the Society’s International Chorus Competition.
