Phoenix Country Day School seeks to hire a dynamic Middle and Upper School Band Director for the 2020-21 school year. The position encompasses the preparation, practice and performance of instrumental music from grades five to twelve which includes Beginning Band, Concert Band, and Jazz Ensembles. The goal is to inspire, expose, and guide students to actively participate in music making through instrumental music. The Band Director is tasked with collaborating closely with the music faculty to ensure that music programming is current and engaging.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Provide instrumental music instruction through planning, implementing, and assessing for students grades five through twelve
Prepare students for multiple ensemble performances
Coach Middle and Upper School jazz bands with the majority of practices occurring in the morning before school
Co-direct the Upper School musical
Serve as a Middle or Upper School advisor for 6-10 students
Stay current regarding music education pedagogy and implement innovative, engaging approaches
Collaborate with music faculty regarding curriculum
Maintain inventory of school-owned band instruments along with sheet music library
Communicate and establish effective working relationships with students, staff, and parents
A master’s degree or doctorate in music education, or a related field, is preferred.
