WESTMINSTER COLLEGE OF THE ARTS OF RIDER UNIVERSITY, through its Westminster Choir College (WCC), announces an opening for a full-time, tenure track appointment in Music Education at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning September 1, 2020 on the University’s Lawrenceville campus. Music Education is the largest WCC undergraduate major. Masters programs include the M.M. in Music Education and the M.M.E. Upon invitation from the Department, well-qualified undergraduates may enroll in the 4+1 B.M. + M.M.E. program.
The successful candidate will lead the graduate program and teach graduate and undergraduate level courses in their area of expertise; advise students; supervise student teachers; supervise graduate-level research projects and theses; and contribute to scholarly research and professional leadership in the field.
Westminster Choir College of Rider University has an international reputation for excellence in choral performance and music education, including a strong commitment to critical pedagogy and social justice.
A demonstrated background in music education with at least 4 years of experience teaching music in K-12 public or private schools
Direct experience with at least some of the major pedagogical movements in music education is expected
Demonstrated experience of progressive and innovative scholarship as evidenced by publications, conference presentations and other appropriate activities
Critical pedagogical, social justice, culturally responsive pedagogy, popular music pedagogy, urban music and/or community music
Collegiate teaching particularly in graduate level
Doctorate or ABD (will be required at time of appointment)
